  • Hi All,

If you have a question about the forum you don't need to start a new thread on it. Just ask your question here. Remember Moderators have only limited knowledge of the show. We are happy to answer any forum questions here though.

    Cheers

  • Sorry if this has been asked before BP or Jonathan but is this interface going to be used for BL 2010?

  • Hi Ferny :)

It was hoped to be but at this stage TBL will remain on the forums we have had for the past 3 years.

  • BP, do we know how to start a blog yet?

  • I am not sure if it is turn on and really don't know if it is going to be PC. The option was on the old ones and wasn't turned on over there.

And thank goodness too.  This isn't MySpace or Facebook FFS.  That's why I come here!

  • The major problem is that EVERYONE who writes blogs think they can :(

I never missed it. Plenty of other places for blogs, as UP said.

    Just curious about it.

  • Hi Guys,

    Yeah on the two topics:

    1. BL forums? Not at this stage. for BL 2011 probably, but VideoHits will get it all bedded in first; then and only then will we move it over later to TEN, Loser, Dance, Neighbours etc.

    2. Blogs - Can be switched on; though at this stage giving everyone a voice is what the forums are there for. There are some sections (Biggest Loser write your own recipes) which will suit it; though as you've so succinctly put, there are plenty of other places for this.

As you guys have noticed, this is much more of a community product than just a forum, so it's inevitable that these will expand to cover more than just the forums, but we'd like to make sure it's done right!

Thanks for your continuing help in making it better!

    Ads,

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Confused

That statement worries me more than anything else.   As you may have noticed, users are already worried about the changes in place, but with more coming...

And personally, I do not want a social networking site.  There are already enough of those, which I first joined and then no longer use because of the people and useless devices which frequent them.

Yet I always return to forums, because these are simple, easy to use, and quick.

And what of the mods?  FB and MS work (?) precisely because there IS NO MODERATION.  And look how successful that has been?  Suicides, bullying and harassment are rampant.  I know this, because I have to deal with it every day (virtually) of my working life.  It is a bigger problem than people realise.   Opening up these extra features will only serve to make mods lives harder.

As an example, I notice that users are already uploading photos of themselves to use as avatars.  As a teacher, the lack of security in place for this frightens me.  Teens (or younger) with their photos on the web for all to see with NO security at all.  At least with FB and MS you can STOP people viewing photos.

There is no need for all the bangs and whistles.

Linking forums to show sites (as is presently the case) and to a possible clone of iView, which has been touted several times in the media, is a good idea and works well, anything extra will just cause more problems (IMO) than it will solve.

Don't mean to intrude on this discussion but many forums have an 'upload an avatar' option, in fact, every forum I've been to has this option.  VH was the only forum up until now that didn't have the option.  Besides, the avatar appears quite small and thus in my opinion, next to harmless.

  • That's the good thing about forums Dark angel - you can never intrude on a discussion and since your avi was probably the one UP was referring to it is good to get your take on it.

You are not intruding.  This is open to all.

It is just that, as a teacher, I have witnessed first hand the problems that are faced by young girls (and to a lesser extent boys) when they set up an item such as a FB page without putting in the correct security.  One the reasons I like these forums, particularly for young people is that their identity is kept reasonably well hidden.  The issue here isn't adults, they can take care of themselves as far as I am concerned, but these forums have many many many children on them who do not realise the dangers they pose by some of their actions.

Posting a photo can be enough to set a stalker on to you.  It is that simple.

AND, we have been told that the avatars will be increased in size.

Besides, uploading own avatars presents many other issues (copyright infringements, for example) that I do not believe it is the moderator's problem to deal with.

In any case, the final details of these forums have not been set down.  It is my hope that this is one particular option that is turned off, however.  For the reasons listed.

  • Hi UP...:)...I was just reading the above and actually don't get the whole drift of the convo so maybe I shoudl just choof now :D but on the subject of being a teacher I just wanted to throw my 2 bob in if you don"t mind...

On fb which I'm not 100% up with but getting the swing of it, the youngies and some older, that I'm warning my friends not to are accepting any friends at all especially the ones they don't know...I don't get that....it's dangerous and no one knows who the hell they are and there's so many nasty things being done with easy access to peoples info through the net....I know the chances may be fairly slim of being unlucky but a lot of people are unlucky....I'm thinking that when kids are taught as they are when they're young on computers at school...they need to be taught the stranger danger message more than evidentally it is.I heard on a morning show that it's an ego thing...how many friends have you got etc....Just thought I'd throw that in....cya :)

btw...what's edit tags about? cheers anyone

    Happy days Smile
