Concerning the story on the young man who had a severe injury to his pelvis, I know first hand at how long it can take.

In 2003 I was in a freak car accident (I was not in the car at the time) when my car reversed and pinned me. I ended up with 7 clean fractures of the pelvis, 3 fractured ribs, a pereneal tear & suspected punctured lung. I will always be grateful of the exceptional work by the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane & Dr Malisano's team of talented orthopaedic surgeons.

I am walking perfectly.

I agree with mi1ez, kid are being "mollycoddled" more and more. We are all looking to do bigger and grander things, yesterday is was the highest number of runs on the team, today it's ridding on top of a train the longest.

The reason teenagers takes risks is due the development of their brain. The limbic system which is responsible for emotions is developing at a rapid rate while the frontal lobe which is controls rational thought and delay of gratification is closed for reconstruction and oftens is mot developed until the age of 25 yrs. This is why teenagers take unbelievable risks with little thought of the consequences. It is a normal part of their development however due to the rapid changes in technology and the 24hr availability of their peers through social networking they are faced with some serious influence hence adversity unlike any generation before them. We need to educate all teenagers about what is happening to their brain so they understand that it is not unique and is actually happening to all teenagers. This will help teenagers realise they are okay and not to identify themselves as being foolish and irrational. This information may also stop teenagers impulsively attempting suicide if they realise this emotional roller coaster is a natural part of their development and will pass in time..

With 4 young Australian's dieing each week from CHD, My Son Cody amongst them, my wife and i started a Foundation. A Charity set up to financially assist parents cover funeral expenses of a CHD child. Something we found didnt exist when Cody passed away 2 days before Christmas in 2010. To date we have raised $12 000 since September 2011.
